We see a black Labrador retriever named Ubu holding a Frisbee in his mouth in the middle of a city park. The text "UBU PRODUCTIONS" is on the bottom of the screen, set in Morris Fuller Benton's Hobo typeface.
Music/Sounds[]
Goldberg saying "Sit, Ubu, sit! Good dog.", followed by Ubu barking, ABC airings of Spin City, starting in 1998, and NBC airings of Battery Park, used the network's generic theme.
Scare Factor[]
- None to medium. This is a favorite of many closing logo fans. It all depends on what you think of the distorted picture of Ubu.
- High for the Robot Chicken variant because it implies the owner shot Ubu which is animal abuse. It can also easily upset and offend animal lovers
Trivia[]
- This picture was taken in Paris, France in 1982. The cheap picture of Ubu was taken with Mr. Goldberg's camera when he was playing Frisbee with him.
- Ubu's mascot dog was named Ubu Roi, the founder's dog. It was named after a play called Ubu Roi. The dog died in 1984. This was used from 1982 to 2002, can be seen on Family Ties (1982-1989, Paramount Television), Brooklyn Bridge (1991-1993), and Spin City (1996-2002,Lottery Hill,Dreamworks)
- On the Robot Chicken episode Easter Basket, there is a parody of this logo. We see a picture of a dog. The narrator voiced by Seth Green says "Sit, Ubu, sit! Bad dog!" then we hear a loud gunshot and a dog whimper.
- On YouTube, there is a short video about the logo named "The Destruction of UBU Productions Logo" uploaded by Brooklyn The Cartoon Girl. In the video, the logo speeds up 2x more for a couple of seconds. After the logo repeats, it cuts to black and we hear a teenager saying "What can I say, how am I s-" in an Australian accent before it got cut off by a slow, beastly roar.
- There was originally going to be a animated variant with the dog sitting. however, it was too expensive, so it got scrapped. it still can be seen in some animation reels (though it is extremely rare).
- There is a take variant, where after a man says "sit ubu sit", Ubu is crying and the man says "Ubu! Sit! Now!" he starts spanking Ubu and he starts screaming and the man says "Sit your butt down, sit down!" and after the Ubu does a long whimper, the owner yells "SIT!!!" and the dog screams one last time.
